Description
Ruth Street from Burns Avenue to Nokomis Avenue and Algonquin Avenue from Nokomis Avenue to Stillwater Avenue will be resurfaced in 2024 through a process called mill and overlay to create a smoother roadway surface. Crews grind off the top layer of roadway, then replace it with a new layer of bituminous pavement. The project includes some pedestrian improvements, which were made in 2023.

    Pedestrian Improvements

The city's sidewalk division made pedestrian improvements in 2023. These pedestrian improvements included installing bumpouts (curb extensions) and medians to narrow the road and provide a shorter crossing and better visibility for people. Narrowing the road also encourages slower driving speeds. The city also installed ADA-compliant ramps to improve accessibility for people using strollers and mobility devices.

    • Medians were installed at:
      • Conway Street
      • 5th Street East
    • Bumpouts were installed at:
      • Wilson Avenue
      • 3rd Street East
    • ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps were installed at:
      • Suburban Avenue
      • Fremont Avenue
      • 4th Street East
      • Reaney Avenue
      • Bush Avenue
      • Nortonia Avenue
      • Nokomis Avenue
      • Iroquois Avenue
