Guidelines
-
- To help users quickly navigate to specific sections of a long page.
- When providing a table of contents or on-page navigation menu.
- To improve accessibility by allowing users to skip repetitive content and jump directly to the main content.
- When deep-linking is useful so users can share or bookmark a specific section of a page.
-
- Avoid overusing them on short pages where scrolling is not a burden.
- Don’t create anchor links without clear labels or context; users should understand where the link will take them.
- Avoid linking to elements that aren’t clearly visible or don’t provide enough spacing (to prevent the target from being hidden behind sticky headers).
- Avoid using generic text like “click here” or “read more.”
-
- Use descriptive and meaningful link text that conveys the destination or purpose of the anchor.
