Lilydale Picnic Shelter Project
The department of Parks and Recreation has allocated funding for a new picnic shelter and restroom structure for Lilydale Regional Park. The final program will be verified by an analysis of site conditions and budget, however the anticipated program includes a restroom, storage room, a picnic shelter for 8 tables, and slight modifications to trail alignments.
We are excited to be working with the architects at VJAA for design of this project. VJAA has won numerous design awards and received the National Firm Award in 2012, the highest honor possible from the American Institute of Architects.
After bidding for construction in the Fall of 2019, proposed construction costs were higher than the project budget could accept. Design modifications were made during the following winter to reduce project scope and anticipated cost of changes to the trails.
The project will be bid for construction again in Spring of 2020, and pending proposed construction costs and impacts related to Covid-19, it will be completed by the end of 2020.
As the schedule proceeds and the analysis of site conditions is balanced with the possibilities of the budget, project progress will be posted to this website.
Community Open House - March 28, 2019
A community open house meeting was held on March 28th, 2019 at the El Rio Vista Recreation Center to review and discuss the design for the new picnic shelter. Members of the design team from VJAA and the City of Saint Paul were there to listen to feedback and provide information about the project. If you were not able to attend the meeting or would like to review the designs once again, please click the link below.
