This Week

• Final lift of bituminous has been placed throughout construction site
• The process of installing lines and symbols in to the roadway has begun;  please proceed with caution while crews are in the roadway
• The Edgcumbe Road and St. Paul Avenue intersection has been opened on the East, West and South side.  The North side will remain closed both northbound and southbound during construction; signals are flashing red at the intersection; once northbound Edgcumbe is open the signals will be fully functional; push buttons remain inactive during this time

Next Week

• Interior sanitary manhole repair to be performed by subcontractor; protective barriers will be placed around open manhole covers
• Phase 3 landscape sod has been placed and the contractor will maintain it for the first 30 days; because of the time of year, the sod will be going dormant and starting in Spring 2024, the contractor will then maintain the sod for a proper duration; a letter has been delivered to all residents on phase 3 detailing this information

• Access on Edgcumbe Road from Fairview Ave has been closed off for another roadway project to begin
• Phase 1 landscape sod has been placed and the contractor has completed their required timeframe to maintain the sod for the first 30 days.  Residents are now responsible to cut, water and maintain the new sod in phase 1
• Phase 2 landscape sod placed; contractor will maintain the sod for the first 30 days; the contractor will verify the sod successfully establishes and any areas that fail to establish will be addressed

Next Week

• For the next few weeks crews will be on site raising the utilities (manholes, gate valves) in the roadway.  Additional work on interior repair and interior pipe inspection will also be performed.  Please be vigilant around protective barriers
• The remaining concrete walk and driveways on phase 3 to be finished.  Please avoid fresh concrete for 24 hours after pour

• The contractor has begun to tolerance and shape (grade) the class 5 roadways in phase 3.  There could be limited access to Edgcumbe during this time
• Concrete curbs and driveways have been placed on the final phase.  Driveway caution tape will be removed and residents will have access to their driveways once the concrete has cured.  Areas not filled by concrete will be filled in with class 5 by the contractor until the bituminous contractor can patch those areas.  The contractor will begin placing the final sections of concrete walk on the final phase the following week

• Curb and gutter were placed on July 12th from St. Paul Ave up to Sunny Slope Lane.  Crews will complete that work on Friday, July 14th

• Signal pole bases at the intersection of Edgcumbe/St. Paul Ave are being drilled
• Most of the remaining pavement within the project has been removed and concrete underneath has been broken up

• Beginning mid-week, the concrete contractor will replace concrete curbs and gutters on phase 1 at the St. Paul Ave/Edgcumbe Road intersection.  Residents with driveways in phase 1 (St. Paul intersection to Sunny Slope Lane on Edgcumbe Road) will receive a door hanger regarding parking restrictions

• The Contractor will be completing storm and sanitary work prior to the upcoming holiday weekend for residents of Sunny slope Lane

• Public Works will be on site beginning Wednesday, July 5th to begin drilling signal pole bases at the Edgcumbe Road and St. Paul Avenue intersection; traffic controls will be readjusted so proceed with caution through the area
• The Contractor will begin milling away pavement from the remaining areas on Edgcumbe Road up to the Fairvew and Hampshire intersection; proceed with caution

• There will be no access to Sunny Slope Lane during the construction hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm depending on when crews finish work for the day.  We are asking residents to please park their commuting vehicle on the shoulder of Edgcumbe Road, north of the site, during these hours.

Through several community meetings and virtual open houses, Public Works has heard from both sides equally about keeping or removing the existing slip road.

In addition, Public Works heard a strong desire to keep the park separated and clearly delineated, as well as concerns over challenging sight lines at the intersection of Edgcumbe Road and Hampshire Avenue, particularly for left-turning traffic.

To address a variety of residents’ concerns, the project has proposed a modified solution. The new layout for the slip road maintains the separation and narrows the roadway while increasing park space.

Stop signs on both sides will slow and stop traffic to aid formal turns, which is an important safety consideration with the addition of the bike lane.   This solution also squares off the access points to prevent free right turns and merging lefts.
