Established Practice

SPPD is committed to transparency

The Saint Paul Police Department requires officers to report specific data after every traffic stop. This data consists of four things: Race, sex, if the person was searched and if the vehicle was searched.

In 2017, the department also collected the reasons for traffic stops to better understand why officers initiate traffic contacts. ‚ÄčThe department will release traffic stop data annually.
