Project Updates

8/06/2019 - The Jimmy Lee Play Area Grand Opening is scheduled for Thursday, August 15th starting at 3:30pm. Come join the celebration!

7/2/2019- The construction of the play area has reached substantial completion. The temporary construction fence will be removed on July 3 and the play area will be open to the public!  A few items are still remaining to complete: new benches, new picnic tables, artwork, and a new fence along the driveway. A Grand Opening of the play area is being planned for late July 2019.

5/16/2019- Construction of the play area is underway. The play equipment is in place and drainage system is being installed.  Next, the concrete and play area surfacing will be completed prior to final grading and landscaping the site. Construction will be completed in June of 2019.
11/1/2018- Construction of the play area will begin in late October 2018. The Play Area will be fenced off and closed during construction.  Construction will be completed in Spring of 2019.  Artist Arlene Birt is working on artwork to recognize Jimmy Lee.
10/29/2018- We are excited to announce that construction has begun on the Jimmy Lee Play Area replacement project! The contractor will begin with the removal of existing play equipment, vegetation, paving, and site amenities before excavating for the new play area.  Soil removed from the site will undergo recommended testing before the construction of new site elements are installed.  During the testing period, there may be a slight lapse in construction activity at the site for approximately 1 week.  The contractor plans to do as much work as possible this fall while the weather still allows, and then will resume again next spring.
2/2/2018- Standard environmental testing is currently underway at the play area. The play area will be closed for up to a week in mid-February as these tests are conducted. Results from the testing will indicate the next steps and timeline for construction, and additional updates will be provided at that time.
