Working Out of Classification (WOOC) - Administrative Guidelines
Out-of-classification assignments are an administrative tool governed by certain labor agreements that provide a vehicle for ensuring that appropriate and necessary staffing levels are maintained during employee absences and certain approved administrative actions. The use of out-of-classification assignments is not intended to resolve long-term or permanent staffing issues. Therefore, when assigning an employee to work on an out-of-classification basis, the following should be adhered to:
- Payment of out-of-classification pay will be paid in accordance with the appropriate labor agreement. To be eligible for out-of-classification pay an employee must perform, on a full-time basis, all of the significant duties and responsibilities of a position different from the employee's regular position, and which is in a classification higher than the classification held by such employee.
- Certified employees will be paid in accordance with Civil Service Rule 28B.
- Unclassified employees may be paid anywhere in the range as determined by the appointing authority.
Questions arising from out-of-classification assignments will be resolved through a review conducted by the Office of Human Resources.Effective: April 27, 2006
