Poems are inscribed on new sidewalk panels as part of the sidewalk replacement program. Poems from the City's current archives along with winners of the 2021 Sidewalk Poetry Contest will be used as part of our 2021 sidewalk replacement program.

In 2021, the City of Saint Paul, in partnership with Public Art Saint Paul, hosted a Sidewalk Poetry Contest. Writers who live in Saint Paul were able to submit poems for the chance to have them stamped into city residential sidewalks starting this summer.

The 2021 Sidewalk Poetry Contest accepted submissions from new, emerging or professional writers of any age. Winning writers will receive a small prize and will have their poems stamped into city residential sidewalks starting this summer. Submissions in four non-English languages were accepted this year: Dakota, Hmong, Somali, and Spanish, reflecting the diversity of Saint Paul. Writers who submit in one of these languages were asked to include its English translation also.

Poetry entries were accepted March 22-April 25, 2021.
