Apply for the Community Advisory Committee

Role of the Committee
The CAC will serve in an advisory role, reviewing project information and public input, discussing issues and alternatives, identifying gaps in community outreach, and providing advice to the project team. Final project decisions remain with the City The CAC will complement – not replace -- open houses, listening sessions, and other additional and varied opportunities for the public to participate and provide feedback.

CAC members are expected to attend the planned series, review materials, listen with an open mind, and participate constructively. In-person meetings are preferred, although some may be held virtually; dates, times and locations will be developed with members to support participation.

Who should apply?
We encourage applications from people with a connection to Summit Avenue, including residents, renters, property owners, people who travel along the corridor, and people connected to local businesses, schools, and community institutions. The City welcomes people with different viewpoints and experiences, including people who have not participated before. No technical expertise or prior committee experience is required.

The City seeks people who have diverse perspectives on issues, including but not limited to accessibility, different ways of traveling, parking and access, historic preservation, trees, landscaping and the environment, along with experiences across neighborhoods, housing types, age groups, and generations. These examples do not create reserved seats. Elected officials, appointed officials, and City of Saint Paul staff are not eligible to serve as CAC members.

Time Commitment
The first meeting is expected in January 2027. The proposed series includes approximately seven meetings, primarily during 2027, with additional meetings as needed.  Meetings will occur at key points in the project rather than on a fixed monthly schedule.

In-person meetings are preferred. Dates, times, and locations will be developed with members to support full participation. Members should plan to review materials, attend the meeting series, and participate respectfully in discussions with people who may hold different views.

Committee Selection
All applicants will use the same application process. The City will consider connections to the corridor, experiences and perspectives, constructive participation, and availability, while seeking a well-rounded committee. No particular interest, organization, or viewpoint should dominate. The City may retain a small pool of qualified alternates or replacement candidates.

Selection notifications are expected to begin in early January 2027. All applicants will be notified after selected members confirm participation. The City will share the committee members on this website.
