We Miss You!
It's been a while since we've seen you so we want to remind you that we miss you and we can't wait to see you soon! Though our summer will look a little different, we will continue to provide you with virtual and outdoor recreation activities. Browse the current programming options below and stay tuned for additional opportunities throughout the summer.
The focus of this lacrosse camp is on overall development of youth through physical activity, co-educational lacrosse skills and leadership training. Each format is open to any and all ability levels. Participants will train with qualified coaches and mentors to advance their lacrosse skills and take part in group sessions to further develop their leadership abilities. This free camp is for ages 5-11 and adheres to MN Department of Health guidance on COVID-19.
- El Rio Vista Recreation Center: July 21-23 from 2-4pm
- Jimmy Lee/Oxford Community Center: July 28-30 from 1-3pm
- McMurray Fields: August 4-5 from 1-3pm
- Sylvan Park: August 11-12 from 1-3pm
Summer Space (last session begins Aug 3 but you can still register!)
Summer Space is a free outdoor program for Saint Paul youth entering grades 1-6 that adheres to MN Department of Health guidance on COVID-19. The program includes arts & crafts, nature exploration, games, fitness, and other structured activities that allow for participants to connect with their peers while keeping their “space” to allow for social distancing. Registration is required. You must call the recreation center directly, Monday through Friday, 12pm-3pm to register.
- When: Mon-Thu, two-week sessions beginning June 22, July 6, July 20, and Aug 3, 2020; Times vary by location
- Where: Various Saint Paul parks and recreation centers
- Cost: Free
- Who: Youth entering grades 1-6 in the fall
S’more Fun is a recreational childcare program providing structured and unstructured activities offered at five sites around the city. S'more Fun registration is now available for Summer 2020 will adhere to the CDC and MN Department of Health guidance on COVID-19.
Mississippi Park Connection events: Kayak or Bike with a Ranger
Did you know the Mississippi River is a National Park? Explore your National Park with ranger-led tours! A National Park Service ranger will provide instruction and guidance by kayak or bike. (Kayak equipment is provided, including adaptive paddling equipment.) These adventures on land or water are for a wide range of experience and ability levels.
Fitness in the Parks (updated class schedule!)
Saint Paul Fitness in the Parks is working hard during this time to offer unique ways to enjoy a workout in Saint Paul's beautiful parks while practicing social distancing.
Virtual Gardening Classes
Learn how to expand your home garden with these free online classes taught by U of M Ramsey County Master Gardeners. Class topics include herb gardening, vegetable growing, home composting, detecting pests and problem plants, and more. Beginner and advanced gardeners welcome!

Minnesota Vikings at home workout with C.J. Ham
Saint Paul Parks and Recreation is teaming up with Minnesota Vikings fullback C.J. Ham to offer a home workout directly from his home to yours. C.J. demonstrates drills and skills you can do from your living room or yard. Read about our partnership, including thoughts from C.J. Ham and Mayor Melvin Carter, in the Viking's blog post (link below.) Follow along with the video, take a photo after your workout, and tag us on social media to let us know how you did!
Minnesota United Football Club Workouts and "Funtivities"
Try out some exercises you can do from home with Head Athletic Trainer at Minnesota United, Stacey Hardin. Then as your body cools down, warm up your brain with MNUFC-themed "funtivities" such as downloadable puzzles, word searches, mazes, and coloring pages.
Minnesota Twins Virtual Academy Webinars
These webinars are an opportunity to learn from Twins staff and Play Ball! Minnesota partners in an easy to use online platform. Presenters will cover various topics and show youth players and coaches things they can do to help their development. These webinars are free but do require registration.
Outdoor & Environmental Recreation
Our Explore Outdoors team has put together a variety of self-guided activities for everyone to enjoy the outdoors, whether it's visiting a local park or staying in your own backyard. This is a great resource for all your park information, virtual tours and live streams, community science projects, Nature Bingo, outdoor wellness tips, and more!
Como Zoo & Conservatory
Como Zoo & Conservatory is offering LIVE zookeeper talks and gardener talks. Tune in Monday – Friday at 1:30pm on their Facebook page. Can't watch live or don't have Facebook? Visit their website for a full archive of posted videos. We know you may not be able to join us at the zoo for camp this summer, so we’re bringing the camp to you with Summer Camp in a Box! Boxes are available for sessions running throughout the summer. NEW! Como Zoo and The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory have reopened and are now taking reservations for visitors.
Saint Paul Library
Stay safe and stay connected with the help of Saint Paul Public Library. Whatever you’re in the mood for, Saint Paul Public Libraries has curated popular library resources as well as their favorite experiences from across the web that they think you’ll enjoy. We want to highlight a special program for your "little learner" to experience Story Strolls--get outside in a Saint Paul park and walk your way through a story.
Saint Paul Public Schools
Look to Saint Paul Connect for no-cost summer courses and activities delivered by trusted community partners. You’ll find a variety of opportunities to keep your children active throughout the summer. Saint Paul Connect is a website built to share free youth programs, hosted by Saint Paul youth-serving agencies, including Saint Paul Parks & Recreation, Saint Paul Public Library, and Sprockets. Check back often as programs will be continually created and added throughout the summer.
