Saint Paul city ordinance states that diseased or dangerous trees on private property may require removal by the property owner. (Title XVII, Chapter 175).
City ordinance gives Forestry staff the right to actively pursue, identify, and require the removal of diseased or dangerous trees on private property.
- Forestry will mark diseased or dangerous trees with a painted red ring.
- An informational door tag is left at the residence that informs the property owner of the tree and states that an official letter with removal specifications will be arriving in the mail.
- Once the letter is sent, the property owner will have 30 days to remove the tree properly dispose of the debris. This includes debarking the stump to ground level for a diseased tree.
- If the work is not done in the time allotted, Forestry may dispatch a contractor to remove the tree and assess related costs to the property owner.
