Massage Practitioner License

Overview

1. General Application Requirements

   Apply online with PAULIE*

   • Proof of Education Requirements:
     (Upload proof of one of the following options)
     • A valid Saint Paul Massage Practitioner License issued within the past five (5) years. Submit your previous license number or a copy of your license.
     • Successful completion of national certification examinations in therapeutic massage and bodywork, as required by the Saint Paul Legislative Code.
     • A transcript from an accredited or licensed school showing successful completion of a postsecondary course of study with a minimum of 500 contact hours.
   • A Certificate of Insurance:
     • Minimum general liability coverage of $1,000,000 
     • Minimum professional liability coverage of $1,000,000.
     • The insurance policy must list the City of Saint Paul as an additional insured by noting DSI’s address:
       City of Saint Paul
       375 Jackson St. Suite 220
       St. Paul, MN 55101
     • Include a 30-day cancellation notice
   • Acknowledgement of Receipt of Massage Practitioner Ordinance
   • Licensing Personal Affidavit

2. Temporary Application Requirements

   Apply online with PAULIE*

   • Proof of a current license from another municipality, county, or state with license provisions substantially similar to those contained within this chapter.
   • Providing massage or bodywork services for a period of fewer than 15 days in a calendar year.
   • Provide proof of general and professional liability insurance.

4. Fees

   See Fee Table for current License fees. 

5. Expiration/Renewal

   A Massage Practitioner License expires on the same date as the insurance and may be renewed annually.
