General Information

A Plumbing/Gasfitter Trade license allows a person to install and repair drainage, water, gas, and other piping systems in homes, businesses, and factories. They can install plumbing fixtures, such as bathtubs and toilets, and appliances, such as dishwashers and water heaters. They can clean drains, remove obstructions, and repair or replace broken pipes and fixtures.

Application Requirements

You must submit the following:

  • A completed Building Trades Business License Application
  • A current City of Saint Paul Certificate of Competency (Master Plumbing/Gasfitter)
  • A Certificate of Insurance with a combined single limit of liability for bodily injury and property damage of $500,000; or $500,000 bodily injury and $200,000 property damage
  • Both a $25,000 Plumbing Bond and a $25,000 Mechanical bond are now required to
    be filed with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry
  • Proof of Worker's Compensation
  • Minnesota Tax ID Number
  • The required fee

Fees

The annual fee for trade licenses is $188.00 each.

Expiration/Renewal

All Trade Licenses expire on December 1 and may be renewed annually.
