Overview

Animal boarding means and includes every place kept or maintained for the care and socializing of live dogs or cats for any amount of time by a person other than the owner of the live animal. An animal boarding facility may also offer animal daycare. Animal boarding does not include facilities that provide breeding of animals, selling of animals, or facilities whose primary source of revenue is licensed veterinarian services pursuant to Chapter 348. If you have questions, contact DSI at 651-266-8989, or email the DSI Message Center.

Application Requirements

Apply online at PAULIE*

  • Information needed for your online application:
    • Proof of current Secretary of State registration and Assumed Name Filing
    • Business Purchase Agreement (Only for Change of Ownership applications)
    • Property Lease Agreement, Purchase Agreement, or Proof of Ownership
    • A description of the type of services offered including but not limited to animal daycare, animal boarding, pet grooming, and obedience training.
    • Applications for a location that previously had an Animal Boarding license are exempt from the following requirement:
      • A consent petition of support in writing with the signatures of as many of the owners or private residences, dwellings, and apartments houses located one hundred fifty (150ft) of such premises. The distance shall be calculated as the distance measured in a straight line from the nearest point of the property line of the building where the license is sought, to the nearest point of the residentially occupied property line.

Expiration & Renewal

An Animal Boarding License will expire one year from the date of issuance and may be renewed annually.
