Trade Licensing Overview

To ensure the quality of workmanship on buildings and structures within the City of Saint Paul, and to safeguard public health and welfare, certificates of competency are required of skilled workers in specific building trades. 

Access the MN DLI License and Registration Lookup Portal

The state Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) has a search tool that allows you to see if a person or company has a current license, bond, certificate or registration issued by DLI.

Business Trade Licenses

Any person, firm or corporation desiring to engage in the business of construction, alteration, repair, installation or servicing of any building, structure or part or accessory shall first obtain a license to engage in such business.

Trade Worker Registration

Every trade worker who works on any building or structure in Saint Paul must be currently registered with the Department of Safety and Inspections before performing any type of work.
